Two years ago I ran my first 5k. I did not undergo any immense training for it. Infact, I signed up on a whim with some friends not even knowing what I was getting into. Two years ago I was new to what i call deliberate fitness environment. I had been hardcore at Jazzercise but I was not a runner; I did not consider myself a runner. I run because I have legs and my legs move in that motion but I am not a runner because I get no pleasure from it and I am SLOW. I do it to change things up a bit and I love the high calorie burn I get from it but I cant say I have as much fun running as I do dancing.
Beginning my journey to being healthy and fit is the best thing I could ever do. And even if I never regain the body that I dream of, for me the goal is about maintaining and taking care of the body I do have now that will last me the rest of my life.
Over the weekend I walked my second race, at the GLO Run 5k ever and even though it showed me that I was out of shape, it was so much fun it prompted me to sign up again for the Go girl run (first race I ran).
In my defense it was such a hilly terrain :) and I have not done an ounce of cardio for 2 months because of severely breaking my toe in 3 places. And the first thing I did since was a 5k walk!! Today I started the couch to 5k training program. I have little under a month (it's on May 24 ) to train but I am determined to do it and this time match or beat my time from 2 years ago.
Today the program called for 20 minutes of 60 seconds jogging and 90 sec recovery with a 5 minute warm up and cool-down. That resulted in 1.78 miles and I managed to burn 206 calories. #1stdaysmash
Within the next year I plan to do 2 more 5k.
