Gearing up for a 5k

4/28/2014
Two years ago I ran my first 5k. I did not undergo any immense training for it. Infact, I signed up on a whim with some friends not even knowing what I was getting into. Two years ago I was new to what i call deliberate fitness environment. I had been hardcore at Jazzercise but I was not a runner; I did not consider myself a runner. I run because I have legs and my legs move in that motion but I am not a runner because I get no pleasure from it and I am SLOW. I do it to change things up a bit and I love the high calorie burn I get from it but I cant say I have as much fun running as I do dancing.
Beginning my journey to being healthy and fit is the best thing I could ever do. And even if I never regain the body that I dream of, for me the goal is about maintaining and taking care of the body I do have now that will last me the rest of my life.
Over the weekend I walked my second race, at the GLO Run 5k ever and even though it showed me that I was out of shape, it was so much fun it prompted me to sign up again for the Go girl run (first race I ran).
In my defense it was such a hilly terrain :) and I have not done an ounce of cardio for 2 months because of severely breaking my toe in 3 places. And the first thing I did since was a 5k walk!!  Today I started the couch to 5k training program. I have little under a month (it's on May 24 ) to train but I am determined to do it and this time match or beat my time from 2 years ago.
Today the program called for 20 minutes of 60 seconds jogging and 90 sec recovery with a 5 minute warm up and cool-down.  That resulted in 1.78 miles and I managed to burn 206 calories. #1stdaysmash
Within the next year I plan to do 2 more 5k.

Big Dreams, today’s the day.

Today’s the day to dream big. Define your dream and list 3 small steps you can take to make it happen.
My recurring dream is to lose weight. LOL. I want to lose weight to be healthy and wear sexy clothes for Spring/Summer.

In order to make this a reality I have to 1) monitor calorie intake; don’t eat junk 2) Work out 6x/wk 3) Control cravings by going to bed early or adding an evening workout, eating something healthy first, distraction, chewing gum 4) stay positive, visualize my success.
Defining your dreams will help them come true.  If you know what you want, then you can make plans and steps toward it. Having small steps to focus on also helps you stay motivated. For every one that you accomplish you are that much closer to getting what you want.
Fun fact
In 1983, Jim Carrey wrote himself a check for $10 million for "acting services rendered." He post-dated it for 1994, with hopes of cashing it by then. That same year, he earned $7 million for his role in "Dumb & Dumber."

This is a pretty colossal fun fact althoughhhh... First of I feel silly writing myself a check. Second I hate to be in debt and I hate postdating checks for such a looong time. LOL. What a weirdo. But I also see some truth in the law of attraction and etching your dream in stone so to speak.Talk about extra motivation.
Eh, just a few thoughts on my mind today.

See you later Flutterfits.

One in a Million

Had a splenderific day today. I went to Jazzercise and jammed out to Ne-yo's "One in a million" and it totally made my day. How often do we just nonchalantly say that phrase, matter of fact when was the last time you heard that phrase? He says "But sure 'nough your glow it makes your soul stand out from all the rest". " Girl you're so one in a million, You are, Baby you're the best I ever had"  I could go on and on; the song is very uplifting, check it out.  Continue to be the best you that you can be! You don't have to compare yourself to anyone but who you were yesterday. Are YOU the best YOU ever had? You are one in a million, remember that.

I  burned over 800 calories and ate fairly decent. My net cals came out to 1300ish but I don't know if its too low but in reality I ate like 2100 cals. i got most of what I set out to do accomplished. I cooked in the crock pot some chicken breasts that I can have for lunch or dinner. I notice when I work out in the morning and stay busy throughout the day, I don't overeat as much. Don't get me wrong, I still want to eat the place down but I somehow manage it better. An afternoon workout also helps me stay on track too. It was cooooold. 12 degrees(-4 when my kids went out earlier this morning) but the sun was shining and that made all the difference. Don't underestimate the power of the sun. I think it's time for me to move back to a warmer climate.

The kids went back to school after a week of snow days and the hubby is out of town. I did have some wine though :/ it was calculated into my intake but probably should have opted for a PB sandwich. I cannot wait to get started with Powerful Life class. I am really looking forward to working with the nutritionist/dietician and getting some added motivation, accountability, willpower and discipline.

Some other things I was thinking about today: 1) Pick up Spanish again 2) Pick up playing the piano again 3) Learn to swim 4) get my CCW(carry and conceal) 5) Paralegal Certificate

See you later, Flutterfits.

New month, new me: Recommitting to stay on the path to a better me.

Falling off the wagon already are you? New Years dreams fizzling already? Well it is a new month; the shortest month of the year. You can do anything for 28 days.

I am recommitting to work harder and stay true to the goals I set for myself. I can feel it in my bones, the need, the drive, the urgency to lose this weight. I need to channel that into doing the things necessary to achieve that. I have scheduled my cheat day for super bowl Sunday as well; because lets just be honest we can still indulge but not go overboard.

For this F"ab"-uary:
I will not consume alcohol except a lil champagne on superbowl and valentine’s day.
I will continue to drink up to 16 cups(128oz) of water but no less than 10 cups(80oz).
I will work out at least 90 minutes of cardio; mostly jazzercise but utilize treadmill and elliptical if needed.
I will do my F"ab"-uary challenge of squats, push-ups, and planks.
I will also eat clean for 3 days, 1 day have one cheat meal, 2 days eating clean again and 1 day have one cheat meal.
So who's with me? Here we go! Tackling the year one day at a time, one month at a time. Jump starting today with: 100 squats, 50 pushups, 90 sec plank
Later flutterfits have a great weekend.
